Ovulation tests

A woman might feel internally that she is ready to conceive but to be confident it is necessary to take personal or laboratory ovulation tests. For those whose cycle has just started can calculate the time of ovulation approximately by calculating the length of the average menstrual cycle. For calculation begin from day one which is the first day of menstrual cycle and the last day is the day before the next menstrual cycle begins. If the cycle comprises of 28 days then subtract 17 days from 28 which turns out to be eleven. Now make use of the predictor kit on day 11 and continue ovulation tests till you obtain positive results. Ovulation tests positive results mean that you will ovulate in coming 24-36 hours.

This may sound frightening but in non-medical terms ovulation process is reciprocal action of glands and their hormones. The presence of the progesterone can be detected from blood tests and if its level is higher than 20nmo/l then it is indication of ovulation process being started. Another method to find whether ovulation has occurred is through pregnancy ultrasound where the fetus presence is verified. This method is not advisable for the women trying to conceive as the success rate for pelvic and pregnancy ultrasound is same. Some other methods include checking of cervical mucous changes, change in basal body temperature, or salivary ferning 3 to 4 days before ovulation.

Ovulation tests are becoming popular day by day through the use of ovulation calendar or predictor kits and are used as a tool to pin down the fertile period or to prevent the unwanted pregnancy. Now depending on the length of the menstrual cycle, women may ovulate in the middle of the cycle. Sometimes ovulation may occur twice a month. For obtaining good accuracy of the ovulation tests result avoid drinking too much water or avoid frequent urination as it limits the accuracy of ovulation tests.

Early morning urine sample is best to carry out the ovulation tests as it contains maximum concentrated hcg. If you carry out the ovulation tests during the day time then avoid urination 3 to 4 hours before the ovulation tests. If you are carrying ovulation tests at home then note the result in 5 minutes.
